On July 20, 2019 a water pipe burst at the Norwood Public Library
and although the Fire Department, Police and DPW responded within minutes of the alarm, the damage was extensive. Water flooded the first floor and traveled down through the ceiling ruining a majority of he lower level as well.
The Library Board of Trustees worked tirelessly for months along
with the DPW to salvage as much as possible.
Flood renumeration services were on site for 4 weeks. They completed water extraction, drying & dehumidifying of the main and lower levels of the building. Unfortunately most of the furniture, shelving, circulation desks, ceiling, walls, flooring, carpeting and everyday materials were ruined. Some books and DVD’s were damaged, but fortunately most of the 30,000-book collection was saved.
The Library Board and Staff, in conjunction with the Mayor, Borough Staff and the DPW have been working diligently since the flood to bring the library back to life. The work continues daily, and when completed the library will be better than ever: with new carpets, shelving, furnishings and internet network for our patrons!
As the repairs continue, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The goal is to support our wonderful town and patrons with a beautifully refurbished library. The NPL thanks you for your patience and looks forward to announcing the Library’s reopening date. As you can see, good things take time.
Both book talks are taking a summer break. See you in September!
